In France, legally, a Scop (Société Coopérative et Participative - Cooperative and Participative Society) is a cooperative company in which the workers are the majority partners and power is exercised democratically, each worker member having one vote. The manager is elected by the workers. Profit sharing is fair. The SCOP has furthermore important statutory societal commitments. For more details, see here (in French).

It is a legal tool for involving workers in the management and capital of their company. The SCOP have proved to be very important facilitating business transfer to employees, workers becoming owners of their production tool.
